Values

The NSW Australian Mukurtu Hub's mission is to share skills in Indigenous data stewardship that are in line with Indigenous data sovereignty principles. It develops tools and advice through research partnerships with Aboriginal organisations and communities. It does this by working to support local community agendas and research needs in unceded Australia. 

Following the core values of the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research, where the NSW Australian Mukurtu Hub is located, the Hub is guided by three central principles - the self-determination of Indigenous peoples and communities, their sovereignty, and Indigenous-led research. Our foundation lies in the right of Indigenous peoples of having the right to know and reply to information that have been collected about them, and about their knowledge which is held on Country but without appropriate support.

The team's values focus on building a network of support for communities that nurtures relationships of respect and trust, working in partnership, and responding to communities' needs and aspirations by following internationally recognised frameworks and protocols:
